The agape Difference

Initiative Based Curriculum

In agape, we believe that children are active learners and need to be actively involved and see the inter-relationships of the tasks they perform. We view young children as active learners. We involve them actively as co-directors, directing and initiating the curriculum rather than as recipients of curriculum content. An Initiative Based Curriculum will open up a lot of new learning opportunities for children as it becomes a vehicle that builds firm foundations to achieve the following lifelong learning skills:

  1)Thinking
2) Problem solving
3) Communication
4) Social and interpersonal skills
5) Teamwork
6) Research enquiry and investigation
7) Invention, enterprise and entrepreneurship
8) Managing one's own learning
9) Leadership

Character-Building
Another uniqueness of agape Little Uni. lies in its greater emphasis on character-building of our young children. Various techniques such as role-modeling, reasoning, setting limits, causal effect and children’s literature are used to inculcate moral values in them during their interactions with both their peers and adults at the centre. We are especially committed to assist our children in learning how to move from being self-centred to:

know how other people around them think and feel
be responsive in offering to help others
see the link and consequences of their actions
know the importance of being respectful, kind and loving towards others

Parental Involvement

Children spend most of their time with their parents and look up to them as role model in character development. It is through parents’ encouragement, guidance and love that children feel that they are being valued and a strong sense of well being to be involved in learning. Learning is therefore most effective when parents are involved and there is continuous active feedback from parents on the development of their children.

Agape recognizes the importance of engaging parents for children’s school and life success. We seek parents’ support in implementing our character development curriculum; to reinforce the values (Love, Wisdom, Integrity, Discipline and Passion) when they are with their children. Our endeavor and collaboration will help our children foster greater kindness and passion in learning.

In addition, active feedbacks are achieved through regular interactions such as meet-the-parents and get-together sessions, as well as interviews.
