ServingSG Appreciation Event @ Istana

ServiceSG Appreciation Event1
It was such an honour to have been selected to attend the ServingSG Appreciation Event at the Istana on 16 August 2022!  This event was to show appreciation to all educators in the early childhood field for their relentless dedication in nurturing and developing the children, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was truly a memorable event to be dearly treasured and never forgotten.

ServiceSG Appreciation Event

Upon arrival at the Istana, we were ushered into the event room. As we entered the room, I stood in awe looking at the huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The light passing through the crystals made them look so elegant and majestic. For a brief moment, I was mesmerized.

We were assigned into 4 groups of 6 educators each. When the President arrived, a total silence filled the room and I slowly began to feel nervous and anxious. Thankfully, my group members began talking to one another again just to keep all of us calm.

When the President came around to greet our group, she was so gentle and soft spoken. She thanked everyone for the good work and asked us to share some of our experiences during the pandemic. Everyone was on a similar note sharing all our experiences, anxieties and stories of how each of our centres coped during the pandemic. At the end of our interaction session, we had a group photo and were also given a gift set of 3 books about the Istana.

The event ended with a tour to the Spice Garden. The tour guide showed us the different types of spices grown. The one that caught my eye was the nutmeg tree. I used to remember eating the preserved version when I was little. At this present time, none seemed to be available except in powdered form used for cooking and baking.

Overall, l I felt very grateful to be given this opportunity to represent Agape Little Uni. in this ServiceSG Appreciation event. I would like to say a big “Thank You” to Ms Lai, Cluster Principal, for giving me this opportunity!
